Where Marley was more like the Motown sound of Jamaica, Hibbert toots and the maytals lyric and the Maytals were more like the Atlantic side of things: earthy vocals, funkier toots and the maytals lyric and based more in soul toots and the maytals lyric and gospel than his brethren. He is certainly no less important in the history of Jamaican music. Toots & the Maytals - Toots and the Maytals, originally called simply The Maytals, are considered legends of reggae and ska music. Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the leader of the group, was born in Maypen in the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica.

Do the Reggay - Do the Reggay is a reggae song by The Maytals. Written by Toots Hibbert and produced in 1968, it is believed to be the first use of the word reggae in song, and is thus a founding song for the genre.
