Where Marley was more like the Motown sound of Jamaica, Hibbert 'toots and the maytals' and the Maytals were more like the Atlantic side of things: earthy vocals, funkier 'toots and the maytals' and based more in soul 'toots and the maytals' and gospel than his brethren. He is certainly no less important in the history of Jamaican music. Toots & the Maytals - Toots and the Maytals, originally called simply The Maytals, are considered legends of reggae and ska music. Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the leader of the group, was born in Maypen in the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica.
